Job Coach

The Social Welfare Department has partnered with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in taking initiatives and new approaches in the development of Persons with Disabilities (OKU), the Independent Living (IL), Job Coach and Disability Equality Training (DET) starting from 2005 to 2008 under the Capacity Building Project on Social Welfare Services for OKU's in Malaysia. JICA behalf honored to proceed with Phase 2 of the project from 2009 until 2012 for the Project For The Social Participation, Inclusion In The Community, And Empowerment Of Persons With Disabilities In Malaysia. The project is led by Dr. Kenji Ancient and assisted by Mrs. Terumi Shikata who have much knowledge about OKU in Malaysia.

Job Coach role is to help OKU and employers in making adjustments to the work environment and work areas, consider capabilities OKU so OKU can work comfortably and productively in a circumstances. In addition, the Job Coach role is to establish a relationship of mutual understanding between disabled workers with employers and co-workers so that they can help OKU to work on an ongoing basis as well as quality of service.

JOB COACH TRAINING OBJECTIVE

  1. Job Coach is a special "One to One Training" to train group of Persons with Disabilities (OKU) in the aspect of "Preparation before getting a job (Evaluation and Work Adjustment or" Job Matching) "and" Help after getting a job "through "On the Job Training"
  2. Job Coach to be introduced to provide OKU to work in the community or “open employment” and enjoy “sustainable employment”
